Merit Scholarships
Albert Engineering Leadership Scholars Program
Albert Scholarships are available to incoming first-year students majoring in engineering. Albert Scholars are members of the University Honors Program. Read more about the history of the program.
Award package includes:
- 4-year scholarship package valued at approximately $21,500 per year
- $6,000 summer internship allowance
- $2,500 study abroad allowance
- Participation in the Engineering Leadership Academy
- Opportunities for research and professional development
Freeman Scholarship
The Freeman Scholarship is designed to cover the cost of tuition and fees for deserving students and their families who demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA and qualify as Pell-eligible.
Award package includes:
- 3-year renewable scholarship
- Requires membership in one of the multi-year honors programs in the Honors College
Johnson Scholarship
The Johnson Scholarship is designed to cover the cost of tuition and fees for deserving students and their families who demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA and land above the Pell or other federal grant eligibility level.
Award package includes:
- 3-year renewable scholarship
- Requires membership in one of the multi-year honors programs in the Honors College
Martin Scholars Program
Martin Scholarships are available to incoming first-year, transfer and continuing students in any major who are Pell-eligible with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $3,000 or less.
- Award equal to student’s unmet financial need, up to full cost of attendance
- Support for study abroad and internships
- Support of a Martin Faculty mentor
- Must be a current or future member of an honors program
Al Maisto Honors College Scholarship
This scholarship provides assistance to full-time, undergraduate honors students who exhibit exemplary academic performance, citizenship and service to their honors program and/or the Honors College.
- $1,000 award
- Application completed in the spring semester
Delbridge E. Narron Scholarship
This scholarship was established to recognize and support students pursuing study within the University Honors Program and/or disciplinary honors programs. Recipient must present evidence of character as demonstrated through their involvement in community service work or reasonably similar extracurricular activities. Recipient must also present evidence of a commitment to learning, an open mind and an acceptance of diverse cultures, genders and sexual orientations.
- $2,000 award
- Application completed in the spring semester
- Must be a full-time student in the University Honors Program and/or a departmental honors program
- Financial need may be taken into consideration but is not a criterion for eligibility
- Renewable, but students must reapply annually
Delbridge E. Narron Travel Scholarship
This fund supports travel outside the United States for the Delbridge E. Narron Scholarship recipient.
- $2,000 award
- Application completed in the spring semester
- Encouraged to enroll in a formal study abroad program where college credit is earned; however, this is not a requirement for the fund
- Should recipient not plan to travel abroad, other rising junior or senior honors students may be awarded the funds
Alumni Association Scholarships
While not restricted to honors students, the Alumni Association Scholarships give preference to students in an honors program.
These scholarships are awarded to UNC Charlotte undergraduate students who demonstrate exemplary school spirit through academic success, participation in University activities, campus leadership and service to the University and/or the general community.
Applicants must be full-time students currently enrolled at Charlotte who meet the following requirements:
- Strong record of on- or off-campus community service
- Demonstrated campus leadership
- Earned GPA of at least 3.4 or higher on a 4.0 scale
- Participation in a Charlotte honors program is desirable, but not required

While not administered by the Honors College, the following scholars benefit from access to Honors College academic courses and programming.
Levine Scholars Program
Levine Scholarships are available to first-year students in any major with a demonstrated commitment to academic achievement and civic engagement.
Award package includes:
- 4-year scholarship
- $105,000 4-year in-state tuition
- $155,000 4-year out-of-state tuition
- $8,000 service grant
- 4 summer experiences
- Personalized mentorship
Teaching Fellows
The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program provides forgivable loans to students committed to teaching special education or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) field in a North Carolina public school.
Award package includes:
- Up to $8,250 per year
- Must be a:
- North Carolina high school senior
- Transfer student
- Current Charlotte students transition to teacher education
- Second-degree seeking students who want to pursue teacher licensure
