Office of Academic Diversity and Inclusion

Programs: Building Better Brothers (B3); Inspiring Greatness, Nobility, and Integrity through Empowerment (IGNITE); University Transition Opportunities Program (UTOP); and Forty-Niner Intensive Transition Program (FIT).

Office of Undergraduate Research

Located: Atkins Library (Second Floor)

“The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) assists students in identifying mentors and exciting research opportunities in their field, and offers support to the student through undergraduate research grants and opportunities to communicate their research to others through multiple research symposium, a research journal, funding to national conferences to present their research, and research exploration events.”

Programs: Charlotte Research Scholars Program, Charlotte Community Scholars Program, Summer Program to Increase Diversity in Undergraduate Research and The Undergraduate Research Conference

University Center for Academic Excellence (UCAE)

“The UCAE provides academic support services and resources that increase learning effectiveness, enhance student success and promote academic excellence.”

Programs: Peer and private tutoring, supplemental instruction (SI), Students Obtaining Success (SOS) peer mentoring, and 49er Rebound

Writing Resources Center

“The WRC is here to help you at any stage of the writing process for any subject (whether academic or personal)… Our goal is to help teach you to identify and understand the strengths and weaknesses of your writing, help you find answers, and help you learn how to research, write, revise, and proofread on your own. We want you to become a better writer by learning how to improve the quality of your writing overall, not just to improve the quality of one specific paper.”

Programs: Face-to-face tutoring, WebEx training and E-tutoring (students with disabilities can receive appropriate accommodations for all types of tutoring sessions)

Office of Identity, Equity, and Engagement

At the Office of Identity, Equity, and Engagement, “We educate, develop, and engage students regarding their various intersecting identities (gender identity, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual identity, etc). ”

Programs: For Us: a QTBIPOC Student Space, Queer Year 1, LGBTQIA+ Community Chats, Rainbow Racket, Lavender Graduation, Carolina Conference on Queer Youth, and individual and student organization advising

Peace Haven

In the Fall of 2016, students from various organizations on campus coalesced to form the Interfaith Niners initiative which petitioned for a prayer/meditation space on campus. After a large demonstration and over 400 signatures, Chancellor Dubois approved the space. The space is open to all for safe prayer and meditation.

“The Counseling Center at UNC Charlotte supports the holistic well-being and academic success of students and contributes to a healthy and inclusive campus climate. This is accomplished by providing short-term individual and group counseling, crisis management, consultation, referral services, and educational and preventive initiatives for the campus community.”

Jamil Niner Student Pantry

“Our mission at the Jamil Niner Student Pantry is to ensure food security, human dignity, and well-being on campus by providing in-need UNC Charlotte students with healthy, culturally appropriate emergency food. We desire to do our part in assuring that no person in the Niner community goes hungry and that every students has access to nutritious food.”

Office of Disability Services

“The Office of Disability Services works to ensure that students with disabilities have access to education and campus life at UNC Charlotte. Through collaboration with the institution’s diverse community, Disability Services facilitates accommodations, discourse, and engagement to promote a universally accessible learning environment for all.”

Programs: Volunteer notetakers, technology aid, sign language interpreters, transcriptioning, audio description, captioning, and online and campus accessibility

Recreational Services

Belk Gym

“Recreational Services encourages healthy and active living, promoting not only fitness and social interaction, but helping students develop lifelong skills such as sportsmanship, leadership, team building, self-esteem, and communication. Through group fitness, intramurals, sport clubs, special events, and facility management, staff and over 300 student employees work together to encourage healthy and active lifestyles.”

Programs: Sport clubs, group fitness, personal training, and intramural sports

Student Health Center


“Our mission is to promote healthy students by providing healthcare, education, and outreach services. In keeping with our mission we provide primary medical care, psychiatric care, disease prevention and health education, wellness promotion, and various specialty services to all registered UNC Charlotte students. We welcome and respect the needs of a diverse student population within a safe, supportive, and confidential environment.”

Programs: Physical therapy, allergy clinic, immunizations, women’s health, HIV testing, and travel medicine
