Samantha was an active member and leader in several campus organizations, including the Society for Undergraduate Research on Emotion (President), Charlotte Dance Marathon (Campus Relations Chair), Emerging Leaders, and the University Honors Program (Student Ambassador). In her time on campus, Samantha worked as a Preceptor for Biology 1110. She was also actively involved in research on emotion and cognition. Specific projects included: “Read my Expression: Attentional Capture of Angry Stimuli Interacts with Gender to Predict Insecure Attachment Style,” “Emotional Regulation and Cognitive Mechanisms in Social Media Behaviors,” and “As You ‘Like’ It: Effects of Attachment and Support in Predicting Social Media Usage.” Samantha presented her research at numerous conferences, including at the Social and Affective Neuroscience Society Conference in Boston (March 2015), the North Carolina Honors Association Conference at UNC Asheville (September 2015), and the Society of Affective Science Conference in Chicago (March 2016). During the summer of 2016, Samantha studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. In her free time, Samantha enjoys outdoor activities such as kayaking, hiking, camping, and attending events in uptown Charlotte.
After graduation Samantha moved to DC to work for the American Institute of Physics as a Science Media Intern. While there she will continue researching PhD programs with the ultimate goal of becoming a university professor.
