Kristin Smoot

Hometown: Asheville, NC

Kristin is an active member of many campus groups and organizations including the University Honors Program, the Biological Sciences Honors Program, Charlotte Dance Marathon (External Director), and UNC Charlotte Club Swimming. In addition to her involvement with campus organizations, Kristin has work experience both on campus and off campus including as a Biology Preceptor, an Undergraduate Assistant for Chemistry, and an intern for ABCCM Medical Clinic. She has also been involved with undergraduate research in the Department of Biological Sciences studying breast cancer progression, and specifically the role of inflammatory microenvironments in tumorigenesis. During the summer of 2017, Kristin participated in the CPRIT/CURE program at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas where she worked in a cancer research lab under the supervision of a member of the MD Anderson faculty. In the spring of 2016 Kristin studied abroad in Santander, Spain at the University of Cantabria as a part of UNC Charlotte’s Semester in Spain program. Kristin has lived in both England and New Zealand and in her free time enjoys attending group fitness classes and spending time with friends.
